Starting Rate: $25,739.00-$39,188.00
Pay Grade: 22

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
General manual and technical work in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment facility. Work is performed under the supervision of the treatment facility Lead Operator. To qualify for the trainee position an applicant must have completed Volume I or 50% of an approved water operator training course.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
•Performs tasks associated with landscape maintenance of water facility grounds.
•Perform tasks associated with the repairs and maintenance of the water treatment facility and equipment.
•Collect samples from the treatment plants and distribution system for analysis.
•Safely operate vehicles, and equipment used at the water treatment facility.
•Duties include taking flow recordings, chlorine and pH reading at the treatment plants.
•Monitoring chemical usage and pumping rate.
•Flush fire hydrants as part of our required flushing program.
•Accurately prepare and complete written reports.
•Must complete and pass an approved course on operation and maintenance of water treatment plants within twelve (12) months of becoming a trainee.
•Must take and pass the “C” test for certification as a water plant operator within two (2) years of date becoming a trainee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

•Knowledge of and skill in the use of common hand and power tools.
•Ability to understand and carryout oral instructions and to perform a variety of manual tasks.
•The knowledge of basics mathematics is a requirement for this position.
•Must have the ability to perform manual labor under varying conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPER IENCE:
To be considered for this position applicant must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License. Must have completed Volume I or 50% of an approved Water Operator Training Class. The time table to obtain the operator certification is a maximum of 2 years from becoming a trainee da te of employment.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
•Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
•Ability to climb a minimum 30 foot vertical ladder.
•Ability to do moderate to heavy (45 pounds and over) lifting and carrying.
•Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
•Walking, standing, stooping, bending and kneeling, driving and equipment operation.

•Works indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
